Taskmaster Party
Who ARE they?!?
Guess you gotta read to find out!
Disclaimer:
This party was made for fun, and I have no intention of making money off of it at this time. I do not claim any ownership of the television show Taskmaster or any of its creations, images, or likeness.
Overview:
In January 2023, I planned, wrote, executed, hosted, and video-edited a Taskmaster Party, Season 1, Episode 1.
5 friends entered.
Our Taskmaster (my friend Chris) and Little Alex Horne (me) would led their journey.
One left an eternal champion.
Preparation:
After watching Taskmaster and the incredible antics and fun that ensued, my friend Chris and I decided to host a Taskmaster party.
To prepare, we needed to…
Identify the Players Who Would Have Fun - We knew this would be a unique and competitive event. We asked people we thought would enjoy being a part of it and provide a variety of fun playstyles.
Identify the Structure to Make It Memorable - We determined to be true to the show. We would have a prize task, 3 individual tasks, and 1 group task. I would set up, video-record, and host all individual tasks. Afterwards, I would video edit the task attempts, we would watch them together, and our mighty Taskmaster would judge.
Determine the Best Tasks for This Audience - I brainstormed 50+ possible tasks. Chris and I determined the best mix for our contestants. We considered…
Which tasks would allow our contestants to be comfortable and have the most fun? - This was our first episode, so we shouldn’t be pushing the players outside of their comfort zone.
How could we provide a good variety of tasks? - We wanted a mix of simple tasks, complex tasks, speed tasks, and creative tasks.
What would work best within our constraints? - We wanted to stay low-budget and keep players on the ground floor of our townhouse.
Prepare the Space - I purchased appropriate supplies, I refined the tasks, and I prepared the space for contestants.
The Event - Task Attempts:
One-by-one, I hosted contestants through our tasks. It was a joy to see the variety, creativity, successes, and failures that players ended up with.
The Event - Judging:
After the individual tasks, I video edited the hours of attempts down to a humorous version that could be enjoyed by everyone. This was honestly the hardest part of hosting, but I’m very proud of how it turned out!
All contestants, the Taskmaster Chris, myself, and an audience (some friends!) gathered to watch the attempts, awaiting Chris’s harsh but fair judging.
Maddie was determined the true champion of Episode 1, but everyone had a blast and asked when Episode 2 would occur. To be planned soon (2025?), we all look forward to another wonderful episode.
